New black/white HP Laserjet P2035 and P2055 – buy the P2055

Tue 09-Dec-2008 14:47 | Hewlett Packard (HP) recently introduced two new monochrome laser printers: the HP Laserjet P2035 and the HP Laserjet P2055. If you don't know which one to choose, here's our unbiased Printer.com advice. Our opinion on these printers is clear-- don't go for the cheapest printer, but invest just a little more. Why? The first time you buy a new toner cartridge for the P2035, you will have already regained the extra dollars you initially spent on the HP P2055.

Printer.com made the comparison based on 250 printed pages per week. Three important differences:

  • The HP Laserjet P2055 DN is a bit faster than the less expensive HP Laserjet P2035 : 35 pages per minute versus 30 pages per minute.
  • The HP P2055 can help you save on paper costs as it also has duplex (two sided) printing.
  • But most important: the differences in the cost of cartridges of these two printers. The HP Laserjet P2035 cannot use a High Yield (extra capacity) cartridge. So you will have to buy regular (low) capacity cartridges of just 2,300 pages. That means the cost per printed page is rather high at 3.5 cents.

The HP Laserjet P2055 can use a High Yield (extra capacity) cartridge that can print 6,500 pages. That means the cost per page is much, much less, at 2.1 cents. Taking all costs into account, almost 40 percent cheaper.

But that's not all. The HP P2035 has a starter cartridge that will only print about 1,000 pages, in comparison to the HP P2055 which has a starter cartridge with a capacity of some 2,300 pages! So be smart and compare printers and costs of cartridges at Printer.com BEFORE you buy. Save money and choose the right printer for your needs.
